Hi Makinson Race Fans,
Happy Friday the 13th!
This is it! The final year of Bruce Makinson Racing.
Yes, after 18 years of racing asphalt and DIRT, this is Bruce’s final year of racing. He really doesn’t want to retire but his injuries from his big wreck back in 2018 has really been making it difficult to race comfortably. And I keep telling him we need to think of retirement.
So, if you want to see the Makinson 81 out on Dirt, this is your last chance.
We have decided to make Mohawk International Raceway our home track. We hope to visit a few of the other local tracks before the year is done as well.
We will not be racing this coming weekend because both Bruce and I have come down with a head cold (nasty at that). We did do COVID testing and it’s not COVID. Just a good ole fashion cold. So, we are very hopeful we will be starting our racing season next Friday at MIR.
I know it’s been a rough few years for many people financially and we really appreciate what everyone has done for our race team in the past 18 years, there’s been a few of you supporting the team the full 18. Truly appreciate it and we really couldn’t have done it without you. Saying that, I’m glad to say some of you have agreed to come back for the final lap, thank you Sandy Vanier (Brown) CPA, CGA; Napa in Manotick; Your Independent Grocer in Richmond and one more that Bobby got but no one seems to want to give me a sticker or name?!?!
This is the end of an era. Will one of the younger generation Makinsons run with the 81?!?! At this point I don’t know of anyone, but you never know, I’m sure many of you didn’t expect it to reappear after Bobby retired. So, if you feel the need to see speed, come out to MIR on Friday nights to see the final laps of the Makinson 81.
Spoiler alert: the cars colour and number might be very familiar to those of you that remember the days of old. It’s a small tribute to Bruce’s father who passed away in 2020 and Charlie Brown that passed away this past February. Charlie had driven Roy's car mostly on asphalt. Bruce was a little reluctant because he always wanted to keep it his by going with his colours but this year we’ll change it up a bit.
Have a great weekend and hope to see you at the races!
Lynda
By the way: it’s not to late to get your name on the #81 car. We are always looking for new racing supporters. If you’re interested, get hold of me and we can talk.
