June 22, 26 and 29th updates
Hi Everybody,
I’m sure you’ve been wondering what’s been going on. Well, nothing good has been happening so I haven’t had anything to report. I’ll give you a brief outline of the past two weeks.
June 22 – at BOS it rained off and on, when the races finally started (1hr late) Bruce qualified near the rear of the field and the car wasn’t working right. The story did not end well.
June 26 – at Capital City Speedway, it rained very hard in Richmond but Stittsville stayed dry. So, off we went to CCS. Well, the car still wasn’t working right and most of the Sportsman cars there were a little apprehensive about going full out so it was uneventful for us there too. Check out Rick at the Races site for some good CCS pics of the Sportsman cars....thanks Rick, nice pics as always.
June 29 – at BOS, it was sunny and blue sky when we arrived; an hour or so later the biggest, baddest black skies came rolling in. Bruce was only able to get one set of hot laps in before the skies opened up. Races cancelled.
Good news is Bruce feels that they did find and fix the problem with the car. Please don’t ask me what it was, but I know it only costs 5 bucks!! :) (ignorance is blist for me, so let's just leave it that way).
This coming Saturday is the 40-lap Sportsman and 50-lap Modified races plus the regular show. So, if you’re not doing anything exciting I’m sure this will be an exciting night at BOS. Hope to see you there!
Cheers,
Lynda

Hi Everybody,
Well, last night we decided to go out to Capital City Speedway to "test" the car out. Bruce had a great time and with only a few minor changes he had the car singing away. With a few more changes it will be even better. But then it happened! The water pump fan broke off and went into the rad. Let's just say, the words Bruce were using are not something I would publish in my update. But you can imagine.
Trying to keep on the brighter side of things, it was equipment failure and something that we were very lucky didn't happen on a BOS race night. Because it was equipment failure, it was going to happen either way. Thankfully it happened when we were only playing. Yes, there is an added expense to our racing program and this year has seen a lot of added expenses and it's only been 4 races in. But it doesn't seem like we're the only ones, many of the top BOS teams have experienced bad luck this year but now our luck is going to turn!! Bruce is still driving the nuts (and bolts) off the car :).
I have a short video of him on the track last night, if I can figure out YouTube I'll upload it and let you know when it's there.
Have a great Friday Eve and maybe see you Saturday?!?!?
Cheers,
Lynda

Hi Everybody,
Saturday night was a beautiful day and a cool evening (naww, cold would describe it better). Bruce had a good’ish race day, especially after avoiding near disaster during the hot laps. Yes, hot laps, that’s when the driver is to go out on the track and keeps a distance from the other drivers to test his/her car. It seems some people forgot what the flags mean and can’t judge distance or velocity. When Bruce’s hot laps were over and the cars were pulling off the track, one (unnamed “driver”) didn’t see the flag or claimed he was on “cool down” laps (yeah, ok Jeff Gordon, after 5 laps you need cool down laps?!?!), he then rammed into 4 cars. Bruce was the lucky one getting away with only a very bent up rear bumper. But our pit neighbour ended up with a lot worse, and being knocked out of the night’s events with almost $1000 in damage to his car. The other 2 cars were able to make repairs and at least finish the night. I know the track officials did speak to the driver but I feel something more should have been done. Maybe suspension for a night or two?!?! This type of behaviour could have caused serious injury. In racing, accidents happen but stupidity should be dealt with firmly. Let’s just say this “driver” is damn lucky Bruce didn’t get hurt because, for those who know me (and even Bobby), the track may have had to call in the OPP for a pit brawl.
So, now for the night’s events. I have to say, it might as well been a full moon night. The Heat races were silly (and some of the Features were sillier); people were driving like they were racing for millions of dollars. I know position to start the race is everything but is the chance of wrecking your car before the race worth it? Due to the silliness, I believe Bruce wisely backed off during his Heat race and finished 5th. This put him in a bad position for the race. But we all know he’s a good driver and would recover.
The race saw 19 cars start. Bruce started 17th. The track was very, very slick by the time our race came to be. But a slick track is Bruce’s track (ever drive with him during the winter on ice?!?!?). Bruce crept up slowly thru the field and avoided all the mayhem. Yes, of course there were cautions, remember “full moon racing”. This helped Bruce a little bit move up, some of it happened behind him, in front of him or beside him but he did most of the moving on his own.
Bruce clawed his way up to 9th where he finished. And yes, with a few more laps he would have gotten at least 8th. He was making steady progress all night. I have to say, watching Bruce on a slick track is pretty sweet, he knows how to work it and move up (oh yeah, Bobby didn’t do too bad of a job with set up ;)). If he would have started further up in the field he would have definitely had a better finish.
The good news; car in one piece, another top 10 finish and moved up to 7th in points! Not a bad evening after all.
The evening was really a full moon night, in two different classes the Brockville ambulance was called in to take two drivers away. I understand they are fine and it was mostly for precaution purposes but it was that type of night.
Well, here’s hoping everyone has gotten their heads cleared of all the senseless driving and this coming weekend it can be just good ole fun racin’. The fans may be there to see that type of stuff but race teams are there for the racing, so the fans had their fill this past weekend, now it’s the teams turn to just enjoy a night of clean racing. This coming weekend has the Late Models in for a special show.
Have a great week and hope to see you at the races,
Lynda

Hi Everybody,
I’m not thinking BOS paid it’s usually dues to the rain Gods. This past Saturday wasn’t rained out but I wouldn’t have been angry if it did get rained out. It rained when we got there, then it rained just before the features began, then the track was a mess because of all the rain and dampness that had been going on for the days prior. This was not Bruce’s track or day.
Bruce qualified very well the week before, he started his Heat race in the second position and finished 2nd. This set him up to start the Feature in 4th.
Thirty-one cars showed up and only 25 were to start. Well, as I said before, the track was a mess, if only the Sportsman race wasn’t the 2nd race on the schedule we may have seen the better track that the Modifieds had. There was only really one lane to race in, if you went low you ran into pot holes, if you ran high you got pulled back or off in the muck. The first few laps were very intense and racy because everyone knew it was now or never. On the back stretch is where it all started for Bruce, they came in three wide with Bruce on the outside. And yes, that’s where the muck was. Coming in to turns 3 and 4, Bruce was sucked up and back. He had no choice, the car went from race speed to turtle pace, so on the front stretch 7 cars were able to roar by him as he was trying to get back up to race speed and there was nothing he could do about it, he was now playing catch up, he was sucked back to 11th. Then the race turned into a nice parade, people were trying to pass but there was limited room to do so. The track was down to one raceable lane. And it was obvious, if you saw a car go high there was a chance they would get pulled off the track or lose a bunch of positions (as Bruce experienced earlier and a few others too). There was a late race caution that didn’t help Bruce either. The parade would have kept him in 11th but the car wasn’t set up for a track like that and he wasn’t able to hold 11th, yup, he finished 12th. Now, this isn’t terrible, a lot worse could have happened, when he got into the muck he was able to keep it on the track which was great, I know 12th isn’t 1st but 12th isn’t 25th either so be thankful for life’s little adventures, it is what it is.
This has still pushed Bruce up in the point’s standings from 19th to 8th and the season is still young. There’s a lot more racing to come and weather permitting we’ll have some dry race nights which is more to Bruce’s likin’.
So far the forecast for this coming Saturday is warm and sunny, keep your fingers crossed cuz I’m sure getting waterlogged going to these races.
Well, that’s it for this week. Hope everyone has a good week and hope to see you at the races.
Cheers,
Lynda

Hi Everybody,
This past Saturday was to be the first of a 3 series race at BOS, I did say “was to be”. The evening started out nice; blue sky and sun, we were thankful for our pit neighbour having his enclosed trailer to provide us with shade. Well, that didn’t last too long, soon the clouds took over and the skies began to threaten.
The Sportsman and Modifieds were able to get their time trials in just before the skies opened up and the races were called. The 40 lap Sportsman race will take place this coming Saturday June 8th. They say the times will stand from this past weekend….but we don’t know where we stand!! Bruce looked good out there; his times seemed good according to Bobby and Steve but how good?!? The suspense is killing me, but I guess we will have to wait until Saturday to find out.
So, it’s a short report this week. If you missed the chance to come out this past weekend for the 40 lap race you still have a chance to make it.
Hope to see you there,
Lynda
R.I.P. Norman, we love you and miss you.
