Hi
Everybody,
This past Friday night was one night shy of a full moon. So, let’s just call it a night of full moon racing. All classes except for Sportsman seemed to have issues. One Mod-Lite driver left in an ambulance with a possible broken arm. The Modifieds took forever to finish their race due to a pileup that took out almost half the field (someone lost a tire and everyone else joined in the mayhem). But somehow the Sportsman kept the yellows down and even those were for minor things.
The Sportsman class had a 35-lap special race so there were plenty of cars that showed up and they allowed the Novice/Rookie Sportsman to join in on the reindeer games. In total 36 cars showed up for 30 positions and it was a draw for your Heat lineup…in other words we didn’t draw too good. Bobby gave me heck that I allowed Bruce to draw the number but heck I don’t usually do that well either so I’d rather it was his fault that we didn’t get a good qualifying position…right…makes sense!!
There were four Heat races of 9 cars each. Bruce started in the last Heat in the 7th position (of 9). On the start of this race he was passed by a Novice which he had to fight to get past but once he passed him he was on the hunt for the 5th place car but ran out of laps (it’s only a 10-lap race). But this was good, we were able to see that the car was as fast as last week and he was moving up (thanks Ovid for fixing our carb). This has not been the situation all season…so we happy. But this also meant he had to do the consi race to get into the show. But the way the track had set it up, 24 cars had to do the consi to get in! We all seemed confused that they only took the top 3 cars from each Heat. To us it was odd because most tracks take the top 5 and it seems most of the pit officials thought the same way as the teams. Oh well, it was what it was and we would have had to do the consi anyways because Bruce finished his Heat in 6th (we were hoping his starting position in his consi would have been better but he had to start 6th because of the way the track choose to do things).
To get into the Feature you had to finish in the top 6 in the consi, well Bruce did and he was in.
For the Feature, it was scheduled one race right after the consi due to scheduling changes (when the ambulance leaves the track areas the races must stop) so we kept Bruce in the car while our crack team changed tires and did adjustments (thank you Bobby, Billy and Yves!!). But it ended up being a long time for Bruce in the car. The Modifieds were up before his race and there was a red flag due to a large wreck. So, clean up took a while and boy, was there some badly damaged cars. This is unusual for the Mods at this track, their race just seems to fly by but do you remember the beginning of this article?!?!? It was a full moon!
So, after the Mods got cleaned up and finished their race the Sportsman were up.
Bruce was starting in the 22nd position of 30 cars (one DNS so it turned out to be 29). And for you seasoned race fans, you know this would be a tough go at trying to get around other cars and move forward; for you new to racing, no…you can’t just drive around another car and go forward…it’s not your local highway where people will just let you pass them. So, Bruce would take one step forward and two back, then two forward and one back (slower cars can create a havoc when you’re trying to pass and when they just move down on you). Then he settled down to battling two cars. One was mostly good honest racing, the other was a maroon (yes, I finally have a maroon at Mohawk). The worst part of this maroon is he was a Novice/Rookie car, I hope he stays in Novice until he learns the rules of racing. He’s from one of those well to do families that may have more money than racing ethics, I really hope his father teaches him manners before someone does it for him on the track. He kept passing on yellows and jumping the green to get ahead of Bruce (the officials did correct him…see good officiating). But what makes him a maroon is with all his efforts to cheat his way to the front, Bruce passed him on the last couple of laps to finish ahead of him. In the end Bruce finished 16th. We were happy with this, it isn’t a win but when you start in 22nd your chances of winning are slim so to finish 16th is a good thing and the car of a few weeks ago would have just gone in the opposite direction.
Well, one more week of regular racing. This coming Friday is the final regular week at Mohawk then on September 19th we will be racing in their yearend show…weather permitting (Sportsman races the Saturday, it’s a Friday/Saturday affair).
We may be attending other races before the snow falls, I’ll keep you posted.
That’s it for this week. Hope everyone has a safe and happy week…remember it’s a long weekend coming up so enjoy!
Cheers,
Lynda

Hi
Everybody,
Soooo, how was your weekend? Hope everyone had a pleasant and safe weekend.
Ok, ok, I know most of you know by now but for those who don’t….HE WON!! He won both his Heat race (qualifying race) and the Feature, and he did it in style.
Now, from the beginning of the night….
We were at home and Bruce was feeling a little forlorn. Bobby wasn’t supposed to make it (due to work obligations), the car was working like crap and he was starting to doubt himself. But me being me, I gave him the more or less, shit or get off the pot speech. So, as we were packing up he had a call from a friend who didn’t read the website but was coming to the races (I guess we’re connected), so I told him great we have Yves as a pit crew. Then Bobby called to say he didn’t have to work too late and would be at the races; a little later but he’d be there. So, hey, things were coming together.
So, we made our way down to Mohawk International Raceway (have I told you I love this place?!?!). Yves and his brother-in-law, Mike were soon behind us (they got stuck at the border, but made it thru eventually). Right away the guys started preparing the car to drop the borrowed carb in (this is what they were hoping the problem was with the car). Well, it wasn’t showing up very quickly. So, Bobby finally arrived and Bruce decided to try to make adjustments to his old one and hope for the best. And as our luck usually plays out, as soon as they got the car back together…guess what??…yeah the carb man shows up, and we find out the carb was there all along at another trailer. It seems we were borrowing a backup carburetor from another team. Well, I accompanied Ovid to that trailer and ran back with the carb. And the guys quickly installed it but it was too late for our Hot Laps (warm up laps). So, now we have no idea what the car is going to do.
After checking the line up I inform the guys that Bruce is on the pole for the first Heat Race (qualifying race). Bruce’s thoughts were “I don’t know what the car is going to do so I should start at the back”. Well, hell no!! Bobby and I were not going to have anything to do with that. So, we told him straight out that he will start on the pole and drive the hell out of it and hope for the best.
So, off he goes to his Heat race. Well, doesn’t he just take off like a bullet! He left the pack early and didn’t look back. No one could challenge him. Then a caution (a car died on the back stretch). Ahhhh, caution, not always a friend. Well, no, that didn’t faze Bruce, again on the restart he took off and left the pack. It was a beautiful sight, we’ve been suffering so much this season with car troubles that it was just beautiful to see and yes, he won his Heat Race.
The guys were now worried about what the track was going to do. Was it going to slick over or stay tacky?!?! Tacky is a track that many are fast on, it has more bite for the tires. Slick is fast but tougher to pass on. So, Bruce and Bobby went to the stands to watch some of the other races and see how the track was changing…or if it was.
I walked up to see what was going on and noticed the line up board. I walked over to the guys and said “do you know where you’re starting? On the pole!” Now, all season that would have meant the car would eventually work its way backwards. Bruce has never had such a trying season as this year. The only times he was a last place finisher was when he got wrecked. So, now all three of us felt the tension, what was the car going to do??
Now, for the Feature. Well, again, Bruce took off and left the pack. The second place car maybe challenged him for a quarter lap but that was it. He had a straight away lead by lap 5’ish. It was insane! Bruce just lead the entire race, at lap 14 there was a caution…again our hearts sank. Cautions are not always a friend…but Bruce would have nothing to do with it. On the restart he was gone. The second place car, Billy Cook, tried to duck under him on corners one and two but couldn’t make it stick and Bruce pulled away…again.
I was videotaping with my cell phone, well by lap 20 I was shaking so bad that the video is a little jumpy (I’m putting it in Drop Box so if I don’t have your email you won’t be able to view it). Bobby started yelling as Bruce came off corner four for the win. It was insane. We had such a terrible year and then this. What a way to finish up a year. We still have two more regular races but this was amazing. And to finish first with the second place car being a long time family friend, Billy Cook, how can it get any better!?!?! I always told Billy we’d love to have a one-two finish with him. And yes Billy, we wouldn’t mind if it was you in the winner circle J.
So, that’s how Friday night went.
Right now we don’t have a carburetor, our old one has been taken away for repairs and we had to return the winning one. We can only hope that when we get ours back on Friday that it’s just as good as the borrowed one. Maybe over the winter we can find a “carburetor” sponsor, if you’re interested in investing in fun or know someone who would be, please let me know, from what we hear most of the winning teams are using a Pinks carb…I don’t know what that means but it sounds expensive.
We would like to thank all the well wishers that stopped by the trailer, called, and emailed. We truly appreciate your support and to our fantastic sponsors who have been sticking with us thru thick and thin. As for your naysayers and doubters, all Bruce has to say to you is “STICK IT!!!” (we love that commercial…lol…). I never had doubts about my husband’s abilities, maybe it’s a wife’s bias opinion but I’ve always felt Bruce can be great, the more we get better equipment the better he can perform.
A special thanks to Rick from Rick at the races, due to his illness he can’t attend many of the races but he heard about Bruce’s win and emailed us the next day with the winner’s circle photo…thanks Rick! We will be buying photos from the track photographer next week along with the MIR video of the race…I assume it will be less shaky!
Have a great week everybody and hope to see you at the races, you just never know how it will turn out.
Cheers,
Lynda

Hi
Everybody,
It was a nice weekend off of racing. Good that it was, it seems that there are potential issues with the car’s engine. This may be the reason we have not been performing as good as usual. We hope to have it resolved this week so that this coming Friday will be a great night of racing for us.
Yes, we are racing at Mohawk this coming Friday. One slight problem, Bobby, your crew chief and only pit member is unable to attend due to work obligations. So, if you’re been wanting to come out to the races all year and love getting involved and dirty…let us know. We could really use your help and support. I’ve been the only pit crew many times before in the past and I have to say…I’m getting too old for that. If you plan on helping out, please let me know (otherwise I’ll have to recruit priests…God help us!).
And the good news is the heat wave should be over by then. It looks like Friday night will be cool, so bring a jacket. Yes, a jacket, it’s not my first rodeo so I know when you least expect it is when you get caught off guard and you freeze at night.
Also, there’s only three more nights of regular racing; August 21, August 28 and September 4. Then on the weekend of September 18-19th there’s the year-end race that takes place; Sportsman will be racing on Saturday (I’ll keep you posted as to whether we’ll be there or not).
Well, that’s it for this week, have a great week and hope to see you Friday night.
Cheers,
Lynda

Hi Everybody,
This past Friday night was great weather (a wee bit cold after sunset but still nice) and good racing. Just not so much for us; we are still trying to figure out what’s going on with the car. We’ve raced at Mohawk in previous years and have had better results. This year the car just doesn’t seem to be right. But either way, it is nice racing at Mohawk.
It was a busy night; they had the regular classes plus the Quebec Lightning Sprints. And it seemed the Mod Lites were having issues all night. In a Heat there was a rollover, in their Feature a big wreck and an altercation in the pits later. So, with all this mayhem it made for a long night. It was like a full moon night for racing but the full moon was the weekend before. Mohawk races usually run almost yellow flag free. The nice part of all this was the officials were all over the trouble makers and didn't take an crap from them either.
So, now to our race night; the Heat race wasn’t exciting. Bruce started mid pack and basically stayed there. I watched other Heat races and it seemed a common theme, parade style. That’s why a little tackiness to the track would be nice. I know the slick track reduces carnage and someone told me it saves motors but it doesn’t provide as good racing. Only a few top runners are passing, the majority of the field is doing it parade style. I wonder if it would change the carnage ratio, the officials are all over people that are about to cause trouble on the track and aren't afraid to drop the black flag on them. Just sayin’ zol…
As for the Feature, Bruce started in 20th and initially started to move up in the pack. The car looked good and he was doing some passing. Then a caution came out and on the restart it’s like the car decided it didn’t want to play anymore. Bruce was now being passed by the people he was able once to outrun. It really didn’t make sense. This is what we’ve been dealing with this season. The car will start out looking good then peter off. In the end Bruce finished 21 of 24 cars.
The beauty of racing at Mohawk is that at least our car comes home in one piece and without any damage. Really, we may not be having a great season this year but you should still come out to check out Mohawk. It’s a great place and there are some good races to see. Also, if you have been intending on coming out this year there are only 3 regular races left then the weekend race in which we are racing on the Saturday (see schedule below).
Well, I hope everyone had a nice and safe weekend, and hope you have a great week. This Friday there is no racing at Mohawk due to the Fair.
Take care,
Lynda
