Hi Everybody,
Let’s start with Friday night. We visited Mohawk Speedway, have I mentioned if it were closer we would visit there more often?!?!? Thirty-three cars showed up for the Sportsman 35-lap race and only 28 were to be let in. As usual at Mohawk they were taking the top 3 from the Heat race and as usual Bruce didn’t make the cut the first time. And again as usual in the 15-lap consey he drove it like he stole it. Bruce started 4th in the consey and there was a little bottle neck at the start which put him back a few spots but as usual that didn’t hold Bruce back. He started passing people on the outside and on the inside, it was beautiful. He caught the leader and was about to make the pass when he went a little too high on turn 2 and got into the slick stuff so he lost some grip and was unable to make the pass. But that’s ok, he finished a very respectable 2nd. It didn’t really help that much in the Feature, he still had to start mid pack – 16th. But I have to say it’s the best race that I’ve ever seen. There was 28 cars racing, yes, racing!! Not trying to hit each other, there were trying to race the way racing is meant to be. Even Bobby who’s been around said it’s the best race he’s seen in years. Now back to Bruce, he worked his way thru the field to reach 10th with maybe 5 laps to go but he did have someone on his heals the whole time. And that someone was working Bruce ever chance he got, with a few laps to go he was able to take advantage of an opening and pass Bruce for 10th so Bruce finished 11th. But I have to say I felt a bitter sweet feeling….I wanted Bruce to keep the 10th but the guy raced and passed Bruce clean. It was awesome. From what I was told, Mohawk cleaned up those bad drivers and now look what happens…33 cars show up. When a track allows bad drivers in, the good ones eventually say it isn’t worth going there to get wrecked and stay away. Mohawk cleaned up the racing and now a lot of cars show up….funny huh?? So, Friday night was a good night, great facilities and great racing.
Now for Saturday night, Bobby and Bruce decided that the car only needed the gears changed and that was it. Boy were they right when it came to the Heat race. Bruce started near the front and took the lead in no time and took it in style. No one could catch him and he had the best times we’ve ever seen. It was real pretty. Then a small shower came on during the Modified race which stopped racing for a few minutes. Believe this or not, I said to Bruce that I really wanted him to race because the car looked awesome out there….yeah….me….I said it.
Now for the Feature, Bruce started in 4th. This sounds like an ideal spot but not when you have “interesting” drivers on the front row. The person on the poll is known for not being able to handle the car and as usual goes up high and comes soaring down into Bruce’s right side almost sending him into the infield (and bending a brand new side bar thingy might I add!). Luckily Bruce can drive and he was able to hang onto the car and keep going. I’m sure that driver did the usual pinball back in the pack which seems to happen often (and yes this is an “experienced” driver, I think the idea is to improve…isn’t it?!?!). Bruce was going between 4-5 and 6th position. Do you remember a couple of weeks ago I talked about the Maroon….lol…you know, the one that passed Bruce and a few others only to lose it on the 4th corner coming to the checkered?? Well, you never guess what happened!! The same darn thing...lol…same time, same place and this allowed Bruce to finish 5th.
In the end points wise, Bruce finished 13th. I think it’s pretty good considering he wasn’t there for 4 weeks due to his rollover. And I have to say Bobby and Bruce have really started to get things figured out with the car. Thanks big brother for helping getting it done J.
Anyways, regular season is done!! Yes, we have this weekend off and next weekend I’m off to the Spa. But the weekend of September 19th they are hoping to make it to Brighton for the Applefest Shootout Weekend. The Sportsman class has a Mr. Dirt 35-lap Series race on Friday night.
Well, hope you enjoyed my weekly write ups (and really if you didn’t I really don’t care because remember, this is my opinion and view on what happened and no one else’s so you can always stop reading at anytime!)
Have a great fall and I’ll keep you posted on any other races we may attend in the coming weeks.
Cheers,
Lynda

Hi Everybody,
This past Saturday night was good and bad. The weather held out and turned out beautiful and the racing was good.
First off, the Heat race; Bruce started 2nd and took control of the race quickly to come in first. The car looked good and Bruce was in good form.
Now for the Feature; with his 1st place Heat finish, Bruce got to start in the 3rd position. The Sportsman class seemed to have a hard time starting the race. It took several laps to get lap 1 in the books. It was surprising considering the Sprints were there, the Sprint race went on without a hitch but the Sportsman class just couldn’t seem to go long without cautions. And as you know, cautions are sometimes welcome and sometimes NOT! This time was not. Bruce eventually took the lead and if it would have kept green he would have had a very good chance of winning. The car looked great. But of course another caution came out and Bruce (at his own admission) choose the wrong starting position (leader has a choice of inside or outside starting spot). He didn’t realize which #7 it was until they were coming to green (there’s three #7’s and the board only shows the numbers not the letters to identify them). Later he admitted if he knew it was that one he wouldn’t have started where he did and he would have taken the lead again. Instead he got passed for the lead and was pushed up and out of the way by several other cars. It wasn’t terrible because he was now running 4th and the top four were running away from the pack but unknown to us there was a problem with the car…or should I say the tire. During the mayhem that pushed Bruce back to 4th we believe the front left tire got cut. He knew something wasn’t right with the car but was still doing ok. Then a caution came out and the officials told him of a flat tire. Thankfully we had help changing it (thanks Trevor and son from Stittsville Trailer).
Bruce lucked out that the green came out before he got back on the track but a yellow soon followed so he wasn’t a lap down. It was great to watch him go. He was a man on a mission, it was a beautiful sight. He was passing cars and making sure they understood his intentions. In the end he finished 10th. It wasn’t a win but considering he had to go to the back due to a flat tire, a 10th place finish was very respectable. Especially how he did it (don’t tell him but I like it when he drives like that, makes me proud).
Anyways, this weekend is the last regular race at BOS. There’s a tailgate party, BBQ and bonfire after the races. We hope to stick around and camp there in our retro RV J. We didn’t end up going to Mohawk this past Friday night but we’re hoping to try to get there this week…again.
There may be an out of town race in September at Brighton Speedway; the boys are still in negotiations concerning that race.
Well, hope you all have a great week and remember this is the last weekend to come out to see regular racing at BOS.
Take care,
Lynda

Hi Everybody,
Well, this weekend was a washout…literally.
Friday afternoon we were mulling over going to Mohawk. Well, we had heard from Luke that they were pumping out corner one in the afternoon. So, Bruce felt that the track would be tacky and we didn’t have the right gears. He had ordered them but they weren’t in yet. So, as a team we decided not to waste our time going if he couldn’t be competitive.
Then there’s Saturday; well as most of you knew, it was raining in Ottawa. I called the track early afternoon and they said there was no rain there. Bruce and I kept checking the Environment Canada website radar and saw there was a big mass of rain approaching Brockville. So, we waited until 4:00 to call and got the message that the races were cancelled due to rain.
It’s been awhile since BOS has had a rain day. I know Bruce wasn’t happy but at least it doesn’t happen almost every week like Capital City Speedway (I think Wednesday’s are rain days, they should change their race day to Thursday’s, maybe they’d have better luck).
Well, we’re going to try Friday at Mohawk Speedway again this coming Friday. So far the forecast is showing a nice weekend. So, here’s hoping.
Now there are only two more regular races left. This coming Saturday the Patriot Sprints will be there (expect to be raped at the gates, the cost to enter will be higher) and August 30th is the final point’s night race. So, if you’ve been planning on coming out it’s down to the final laps.
Have a great week everybody and hope to see you there,
Lynda

Hi Everybody,
This past Saturday night was perfect weather for racing. It was warm, the track was dry (not like last week’s fiasco) and the night was cool.
Sportsman had a 40-lap race and Modified’s had 60-laps. All in all the night went pretty quick. As I mentioned last week, we were crew-less but thanks to a few folks from Capital City we had a crew show up to help out (thanks Alan, Derek, and Dan’s kid…sorry forgot your name).
Now for the Sportsman race; 21 cars showed up for the special show. And of course there was qualifying involved (time trials). I have to say Bruce looked great out there and the car had awesome times. He had no problem qualifying. In his heat race he started 3rd and had to work on getting past the 2nd place car, once he accomplished that he was on the hunt for the 1st place car but it was too far ahead for the amount of laps in a Heat race. But that’s ok; he did finish a respectable 2nd in his Heat.
In the Feature, Bruce started 6th. Really many of the top cars didn’t do much movement. Some did fall backwards and the furthest back Bruce went was 7th and that was only for a lap or two. He kept his 6th place starting spot most of the race; it was a hard battle at times because a couple of cars behind him were sometimes biting at his heels but overall it was his without challenges most of the race. In the last few laps there was one car that came from the back and passed everyone like they were sitting still, the best part was he isn’t the best driver for judgement (he helped spin Bruce out a couple of times this year) and he drove off the track on the 4th corner coming to the checkered while Bruce had a challenger for 7th which allowed Bruce to pull thru and keep his 6th place position. It was funny to watch this guy, what a maroon, he might have at least finished 5th if he wasn’t a little too overzealous, instead he finished outside the top 10, then came off the track and spun the car just before the exit gate….really…what a maroon….lol…
Anyways, I was glad he did all that because he truly did not earn or deserve a better position. Everyone else in the top 10 seemed to run a reasonable race. There was of course some bumping and grinding but nothing too serious (that was finished with before the last part of the race).
This week is supposed to be full of rain so hopefully this coming weekend won’t turn out to be like two weeks ago where the track was a mess and racing wasn’t fun. I don’t know if we’ll be going to Mohawk this coming Friday considering the forecast so far but I’ll keep you posted best I can.
Remember….there’s only 3 weeks to go!! So, if you’ve been planning on coming out you better make it soon.
Have a great week and hope to see you at the races!

July 25, August 1 and 2nd, 2014
Hi Everybody,
Sorry for not writing an update sooner, I took some vacation time last week and just didn’t find the time to write an update. So here it is for the past two weeks.
July 25th – don’t really remember what happened so here’s what I do remember. Bruce started near the back and worked his way up only to have to pass the same guy multiple times and be blocked by someone that seemed a little out of control. He finished 11th but the car was working good and it should have been a 9th or more night.
August 1st – yes Friday August 1st…we went to Mohawk Speedway. What a nice facility, plenty of lighting in the pit area, clean washrooms, good food, and safe pit stands. Too bad it wasn’t closer; it took about 1 ½ hr drive one way. Now for the races, 34 cars showed up for the Sportsman race and only 28 were going to be allowed in the show.
The Heat race – the Heat races had only the top 4 qualifying for the race and Bruce started 9th (9 cars in his race). The group was competitive and we didn’t have the right gearing for the track so Bruce didn’t qualify in this first round. But thanks to fellow racer Billy Cook we had gears for the consey race. Bruce started 4th and took the lead early and won his qualifying race. The car looked great.
The Feature – Bruce started 18th in the Feature…mid pack. I have to say it was a competitive field and mostly clean drivers. Bruce worked his way up to 11th and as far as I can tell he hit the holes in 3 and 4 and lost his line then several cars were able to pass him and he wasn’t able to regain those spots. In the end he finished 15th. It wasn’t the top ten we would have liked but it still was a good night. A nice track, a good clean race and the car came home in one piece.
August 2nd – the night started out with a thunderstorm which delayed the races for over an hour. The track was tacky and bumpy. Not the greatest of conditions. During the Street Stock race a driver was taken away by ambulance, then the Mod-Lites had two rollovers and again a driver was taken away by ambulance…not a good omen. Bruce’s race started at midnight….yup…midnight and he was the third class out there, there were still 4 more classes to go. From what I read another driver was taken to hospital that night….I’m thinking maybe racing shouldn’t have happened that night. Next time it rains like that we’re going home! Here’s another reason why….now for our race.
The Heat race, nothing fantastic (really…don’t remember it much).
The Feature race, Bruce started 7th. And again…BOS site…on the second lap Bruce did not spin out; the car that started beside him came down into him, as he was recovering the car behind him slammed into him sending him spinning into the infield. Bruce is not a driver that “spins out” for no reason….just sayin’.
So, this put him at the back of the pack but he was on the move forward, you could see a lot of cars that just seemed out of control. One in particular was very much over driving the car. He had started near the front and was slowly working his way back as Bruce was working his way forward (you know where this is going…don’t you…). This out of control car drove into the side of Bruce as Bruce was trying to pass him but this time it did damage we weren’t aware of. As Bruce was making his way back up he started to weave and slow down. He had a flat rear tire (might I add it was a new tire). He came into the pits and Bobby and another team rushed to change the tire to only find out the hub was broken. It seems the nerf bar was badly damaged and part of it eventually came loose and went into the tire not only making it flat but damaging the hub. So, our night ended with a DNF and 14th place.
We packed up and left by 12:30am. We had had enough. From what I read on BOS site two classes were not able to run and were postponed until this coming weekend. That should be fun, there’s a 60-lap Modified and 40-lap Sportsman race too. Looks like it might be another late night.
And this coming weekend it’s only Bruce and I as crew. We are crew-less. So, if you have nothing exciting planned this coming Saturday night and want to help out please let Bruce know.
FYI – we may be doing a double header next weekend too, Friday night Mohawk and Saturday night BOS. I’ll try to let you know if you are going to do both next weekend.
Have a good weekend everybody,
Lynda

FYI – we may be doing a double header next weekend too, Friday night Mohawk and Saturday night BOS. I’ll try to let you know if you are going to do both next weekend.
Have a good weekend everybody,
Lynda
